Other Activities

An annual calendar of events is available at the Treasury Office reception, which can be sent to you on request.   The information is also available on the website on the Events calendar page.

The Inn organises a number of activities for students throughout the year in additional to the programme of qualifying sessions.  All students are actively encouraged to participate in as many of the Inn activities as possible. Moots, debates, competitions and lectures are advertised on the Inn's website and at the BPTC Providers.  The Inn also runs Sponsorship and Marshalling Schemes, designed to improve students understanding of life at the Bar.

Debating and Mooting Clubs

All students are welcome to get involved in the Debating and Mooting clubs.  The clubs meet in the evenings at the Inn a number of times each term.  Both clubs also take part in various internal and external competitions.  Most competitions are limited to those currently studying for the GDL or BPTC but those who are pre/post-BPTC are still welcome to attend the club meetings.  Debating and Mooting both provide excellent practise for pupillage interviews and future appearances in Court.

You can sign up for the mailing list for the Clubs here.

The dates of the next Club meetings are:

Wednesday 22 February - Debating Club
Thursday 8 March - Debating Club
Wednesday 21 March - Debating Club

The Lincoln's Inn Debating Shield
This is an internal debating competition to find the top debating team in the Inn. The first round will be held during the Club meeting on Wednesday 21 March, where four teams will be selected to proceed to the final. The final will be held on the evening of Wednesday 28 March in the Old Courtroom - more details will be available closer to the time.  If you wish to enter the competition you must be able to attend both 21 March and 28 March.

More meetings of both Clubs will be held in the Easter Term.  They will be advertised here and at the BPTC Providers.

Competitions

The Inn runs three annual competitions in public speaking (Crowther Shield), advocacy (Sir Louis Gluckstein Prize) and mooting (Inter-Provider Mooting competition). Participation in these competitions is a fantastic experience for future Barristers.

Crowther Shield
The ballot for the Crowther Shield is now closed.  Those who entered the ballot will be notified of the result by email.

Gluckstein Advocacy Prize
This competition will be held in the 2012 Hilary Term.  The ballot is now closed.

Inter-Provider Mooting Competition
This competition took place on Saturday 11 February 2012.

Lectures

Throughout the year a number of lectures are held at the Inn.  Information about these and other educational activities will be posted on the website, the Inn's notice boards and at each Provider.
