BPTC Student Representatives

The Inn very much relies upon the support of the Lincoln’s Inn Student Representatives at each of the BPTC Providers, as they provide the link between the Inn and the student body.  The Representatives are encouraged to communicate to the Inn feedback from students on issues concerning their student affiliation to the Inn, and other issues pertinent to their education and training for the Bar.

General responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Liaising with the Education Department and ensuring students are aware of arrangements for qualifying sessions, mooting and debating and other activities.
  • Acting as a line of communication between the Inn and Students.
  • Reporting matters of concern affecting the students at their Provider.
  • Organising various activities, social and educational (particularly Representatives for Providers outside London).  Funding is provided by the Inn subject to approval.
  • At least one representative from each Provider is expected to attend meetings of the Students’ Activities Executive Committee (SAEC), which generally meets three times per year.  All Representatives can attend if they wish.  The Inn will assist with travel costs.
  • Representatives will be invited to submit items for the agenda for these meetings.
  • Representatives are invited to dine on the Bar table after the November meeting.

Students interested in the position of Lincoln’s Inn Representative should submit their CV and a covering letter giving a brief outline as to why they are applying for the position to the Deputy Under Treasurer (Education) by Wednesday 24 August 2011.  The Deputy Under Treasurer (Education) together with two members of the Students Activities’ Executive Committee (an Inn committee with Bench, Bar and Student representatives) will select two students from each Provider (with the exception of City Law School, which will have three representatives), on the basis of their CV and covering letter.  At least one of the representatives will be a part-time student, where applicable.  The candidates will be advised of the outcome of their application by Friday 16 September 2011.

The successful candidates will be asked to introduce themselves to the students at the Introductory Afternoon for London students or the Introductory Weekend for outside London students, as appropriate.  The representatives are encouraged to discuss issues of common interest as and when they feel necessary.
