TANCRED STUDENTSHIPS

The Tancred Trust, now the Tancred Foundation was established in 1721 by Christopher Tancred.  The Tancred Foundation awards annual studentships to male communicant members of the Church of England who are members of intending members of Lincoln's Inn and who are nominated for a studentship by Lincoln's Inn.  The annual funds usually permit two awards of scholarship standard.  They are awarded for the BPTC Year.

To Apply
You may apply for nomination for a Tancred Studentship along with the other BPTC Year Awards.  Closing date is 5th November.  A separate application form is not needed, please tick the application form for Major BPTC Year awards to indicate that you wish to be considered.

The following conditions are applied by the trustees fo the Tancred Foundation before a studentship will be awarded:

The candidate:
(a)  must be a male member of the Church of England
(b)  must not have reached the age of 25 when the award is given
(c)  must be in need of financial help
(d) must provide a reference from his parish priest or other clergyman of the Church of England.

Lincoln's Inn ensures that no candidate for any of its other awards are prejudiced in any way by the availability of a Tancred Studentships on the above conditions.  No candidate will be nominated to the trustees for receipt of a Tancred Studentship unless he also satisfies the Inn that he is of a standard to justify the award by the Inn of a Scholarship and would be awarded a Scholarship but for the availability of the Tancred Funds.
