Third Tun Hussein Onn Lecture and Gala Dinner

Four Benchers and the UT

In December 2009 the alumni in Malaysia hosted the Third Tun Hussein Onn Lecture which was delivered by The Rt Hon Chan Sek Keong, the Chief Justice of Singapore.  The photograph shows the Under Treasurer, Colonel David Hills MBE; Miss Elizabeth Appleby QC, Treasurer 2009; the Chief Justice of Malaysia, The Rt Hon Mr Justice Azmi, Vice-President of the Malaysian Alumni, the Chief Justice of Singapore; and Mr Justice Gopal Sri Ram, a Justice of the Court of Appeal of Malaysia and Chairman of the Malaysian Lincoln’s Inn Alumni Association.  The photograph was taken on the bridge of the twin Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur prior to an informal welcoming dinner party.  The three judges are all honorary benchers of the Inn.

On the evening following the Chief Justice of Singapore’s very interesting talk on the independence of the judiciary a gala dinner was held in the Hilton Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, attended by 700 members and friends of Lincoln’s Inn.  At the dinner the Rt Hon Chief Justice Tun Dato’ Seri Zaki bin Tun Azmi presented the Treasurer with a magnificent cheque for £10,000 from the alumni and the Tun Azmi Foundation (established as a memorial to the Chief Justice’s late father) for a prize to be awarded annually to the leading Malaysian student on the Bar Professional Training Course held in England and Wales.
