Scholarships

Throughout its long history, Lincoln’s Inn has sought always to encourage, support and to finance its students. Financial support comes from funding provided by generous benefactors, both past and present and in addition, and to a major extent, from the very high priority given to deserving students by the present Benchers in their allocation of the Inn’s current income. That allocation has been sharply increased this year and funding to the value of £1,481,500 is now available. The details of the Inn’s Scholarships and other Awards and Prizes are given below. It will be seen that the Inn’s financial provision is now concentrated on Scholarships and Bursaries for the CPE and BPTC years because the Inn’s view is that these are years of maximum need for students.

All of the Inn’s awards are made on merit. Merit is assessed in terms of the candidate’s intellectual qualities, of the highest importance at the modern Bar, together with qualities of personality and presentation also regarded as being of the greatest importance in anyone aiming at life as a barrister.

It should be noted that Awards may be made to candidates of Merit so as to assist in funding them throughout the CPE, BPTC and pupillage years.
