HONOURABLE SOCIETY OF LINCOLN'S INN SCHOLARSHIPS AND AWARDS

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS AND EQUALITY OF OPPORTUNITY

All of the Inn's Awards are made on merit. Merit is assessed by a consideration of all the material placed before the Inn by the candidate in his or her written application together, where a candidate is invited for interview, with consideration of the candidate by a panel of interviewers.

The Inn is looking for the following qualities in those to whom it offers its Awards.

1. Intellectual strength, ordinarily evidenced in large part by real excellence in performance at University.
2. A confident person capable also of being sensitive to other people and to the situation with which he or she is dealing.
3. High motivation and drive with evidence of serious commitment to some aspect of work at the Bar through, for example mooting and mini-pupillages.
4. Complete integrity.
5. A high level of intelligent articulateness; some confident but perceptive person who knows what he or she is talking about.

No award (apart from the Hardwicke Entrance Award) will be made without first inviting the candidate for interview. Candidates whose written applications do not, upon careful consideration, disclose the requisite quality, will not be invited for interview.

Equality of Opportunity

Lincoln's Inn takes with the utmost seriousness its obligations not to discriminate unlawfully against any person. The Inn's policy in the making of its Awards is, therefore, not to discriminate against any person on the grounds of that person's sex, colour, race, nationality or ethnic or national origin, disability, sexual orientation, religion or belief, or age, or in any other way that is unlawful.
