A morning service is held at 11.30 am on all Sundays during law term time (32 Sundays per year), which the public are very welcome to attend. This is usually a service of Choral Matins sung by the Inn’s professional choir. Services are also held to mark many of the important dates in the Christian Calendar. The two annual carol services are always a highlight of the Chapel’s calendar and are very well attended. Other unique services include the annual Warburton Lecture which is held on a Sunday in June, the Family Day in early July and the Wigs & Mitres service in November (Click here for a transcript of the sermon preached by the Right Revd Tim Stevens, formerly Bishop of Leicester, on 27 November 2016).
On 31 January 2016, the John Donne Sermon was given by The Revd Canon Mark Oakley, Canon Chancellor, St Paul's Cathedral. Click here for transcript.
On 26 June 2016, the Warburton Lecture was given by The Revd Dr Sam Wells, Vicar of St-Martin-in-the-Fields and visiting Professor of Christian Ethics, King's College, London. Click here for a transcript.
The 2017 Warburton Lecture was given on Sunday 25 June by the Revd Professor Keith Ward on “Christ and the Cosmos” - The Trinity and Christ in the context of modern cosmology. Click herefor a transcript.
The Chapel is also used for weddings for members of the Inn and Memorial Services for senior members (benchers). Baptisms can take place in the Chapel by arrangement with the Preacher. These are normally held after Morning Service on Sundays. The Chapel stands at the heart of the Inn’s yearly calendar with services to mark many of the important occasions in the life of the Inn.
**Please note that the Lent lunchtime series on meditation, mindfulness and prayer will take place on on Wednesdays February 21; 28; March 7; 14 and 21 at 1.05 pm for half an hour. Service announcement: Please come and join us for a short service of Compline sung by the Choir on Wednesday 14 March at 5.30pm. The name Compline comes from the Latin word meaning 'completion'. It offers a space for quiet and reflection and has been loved by many, inside and outside the religious life over the centuries.
