Lincoln’s Inn is pleased to announce our four new Ordinary Benchers, elected at the meeting of Council on Tuesday 20 May 2025:
- Laureen Husain
- Benjamin Williams KC
- Christopher Poole
- Louise Hutton KC
You can find out more about each of them below – please feel free to congratulate them when you see them!
The next elections will take place in November. If you would like to learn more about the process, you can find more information about becoming a Bencher here.

Laureen Husain
Laureen Husain is a criminal barrister at 187 Chambers, London, specialising in serious cases involving complex points of law. Called to the Bar in 1997, she is a former member of the Lincoln’s Inn Bar Representation Committee (BRC) and is a member of the Social Wellbeing Group. She also serves as the Essex Bar Mess representative on the South Eastern Circuit Committee.
Lincoln’s Inn has been an integral part of my professional and social life over the many years I have practiced at the Bar, and it is an honour and a privilege to have been elected as a Bencher and to be able to continue to serve the Inn.
Laureen Husain

Benjamin Williams KC
Ben was born in Bristol, and was called to the Bar by Lincoln’s Inn in 1994 after studying history at Oxford. He has been in full time practice since 2000, and his chambers are in the Inn, at 4 New Square. He took silk in 2015 and conducts a wide range of civil work, with recent reported cases ranging from defamation in the Court of Appeal to Supreme Court appeals on pure economic loss and statutory interpretation. Ben is also known for his special interest in costs and litigation funding, and has appeared in many of the prominent cases in the area, most recently the costs aftermath of the ‘Wagatha Christie’ trial. Ben also sits as a Recorder in the Crown Court, is a member of the Bar of the BVI, and has been an editor of Cordery on Legal Services, the White Book, and Blackstone’s Civil Practice. Outside of work he enjoys history, the countryside and restaurants. He tries to compensate for the restaurants by occasionally lifting weights.
I could never have come to the Bar without the generous support I had from Lincoln’s Inn. I’ve tried to repay that since by helping with the Inn’s vital work on education, training and scholarships, and I’m honoured (if not a little amazed) that I shall now be able to continue that as a Bencher myself.
Benjamin Williams KC

Christopher Poole
Christopher (Chris) Poole is a family law barrister and Head of Chambers at New Court Chambers, where he has practised since completing his pupillage. His work focuses on public law Children Act proceedings, adoption, and inherent jurisdiction cases, particularly those involving medical evidence and allegations of serious abuse. Chris is an advocacy trainer at the Inn, pupil supervisor, and delivers training to clients and legal professionals. Chris has undertaken several independent reviews for Local Authorities.
As the Treasurer says at Domus Dinner, Lincoln’s Inn is home, and since my own Qualifying Sessions, I have felt very much at home here. I am honoured and humbled by my election and look forward to continuing to contribute to the work of the Inn.
Christopher Poole
