Response to the Independent Review of Bullying and Harassment at the Bar
A joint statement from the Lincoln’s Inn Treasurer and the Chair of the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee in response to the Independent review of bullying and harassment at the Bar.
“Lincoln’s Inn welcomes the publication of the Independent review into bullying, harassment and sexual harassment at the Bar. The report underlines the damaging and ongoing impact of these behaviours which have no place in the profession. We recognise the serious harm they cause both to individuals and to the Bar. Actual change is needed.
Lincoln’s Inn engaged fully with the Review, submitting evidence and meeting with Baroness Harriet Harman KC to contribute to its findings.
We will now review our policies and procedures in light of the recommendations. A joint Inns’ working group will be convened to consider the report’s proposals, both those directed at the Inns and those affecting the wider profession, and to identify how best to make change. Read COIC’s statement on behalf of all four Inns of Court here.
We are also committed to working with the Bar Council on its forthcoming Action Plan to help ensure the Bar is a place where everyone can thrive in a safe and inclusive environment.”

Treasurer of The Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn
Chief Chancery Master Karen Shuman,
Chair of the Lincoln’s Inn Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee
