Robert James MacRae KC becomes an Honorary Bencher of Lincoln’s Inn

Robert James MacRae KC has been published as an Honorary Bencher of Lincoln’s Inn. The Treasurer introduced him to Hall at lunchtime on Tuesday 7 October.

Robert MacRae KC is the Deputy Bailiff (Deputy Chief Justice) of Jersey. He spent 10 years as a barrister in England before returning to Jersey in 2001 where he became a trust litigator with a large Jersey law firm. In 2015, he was appointed Her Majesty’s Attorney General, Queen’s Counsel, and in January 2020 he was appointed by the Queen to the office of Deputy Bailiff of Jersey. In this capacity he presides over cases in the Royal Court, including children, criminal and trust cases. When not presiding over court cases, the Deputy Bailiff presides over the States Assembly as its speaker and will, from time to time, deputise for the Bailiff in relation to civic functions.
On 24 October Robert will take over from Sir Timothy Le Cocq as Bailiff of Jersey.
