Black Books Society Lecture: Heraldry and Lincoln’s Inn – a lecture by Mark Scott, Somerset Herald

Date
Time
17:45 - 20:00
Location
Ashworth's Centre Lincoln's Inn

Heraldry abounds in Lincoln’s Inn – on panels and in the windows in the Great Hall and the Old Hall, on the exteriors of the buildings and in the Chapel windows. Heraldic motifs even find their way on to the carpets and place mats. In many respects it now fulfils a decorative function, but it developed for purely practical reasons and is still governed by its own rules and language. In this lecture, Mark Scott, Somerset Herald at the College of Arms, will discuss various historical and legal developments in heraldry with particular reference to the heraldry on display in the Inn.

The lecture will be followed by a drinks reception.

Non-members of the Inn are welcome to attend.
