Careers Events
The Inn is keen to help those considering a career at the Bar by providing opportunities to learn more about the profession, training for the Bar and how to fund their studies. Please see further details below.
If you would like to be kept informed of upcoming opportunities for students please sign up to our outreach newsletter.
University Presentations
Lincoln’s Inn visits a number of universities each year to give a presentation on how to finance and succeed in a career at the Bar.
These events are open to all students at the particular institution and where possible we will open them up to students at other local institutions. More information on locations and dates for the upcoming academic year will be released in due course.
The Inn can arrange for barristers or a member of staff to visit you at your university to talk about the role of the Inns. Please contact us to discuss your plans.
InnSight Days
We hold InnSight Days for students interested in learning more about a career at the Bar.
InnSight Days include a presentation about the Inn and a talk from a barrister, or recent student. Individual students are welcome to bring a guest with them, or you can attend as part of group.
Recordings of our recent events can be found on our YouTube channel.
The next event will take place in April 2026.
University Information Afternoon and Dinner
Each year, during February and March, we invite second-year law students to attend our Information Afternoons and Dinners, designed to provide valuable insights into a career at the Bar.
What to Expect
These events offer a unique opportunity to attend a series of short, informative talks on key aspects of a career at the Bar, including:
- The self-employed Bar
- The employed Bar
- Training routes to becoming a barrister
- Practical advice for success in the profession
Attendees will also participate in a dinner following the talks, where students can engage in informal discussions with practising barristers and Benchers of the Inn.
How to Attend
Invitations and event details are sent directly to university law departments in advance of the events.
Due to limited capacity, individual registrations are not accepted. Students must register through their university to attend.
These events are an excellent opportunity for aspiring barristers to gain first-hand knowledge and make meaningful connections within the legal profession. If you are an academic with any questions, please email the outreach team at [email protected].
Law Fairs
The Bar Council, the Inns of Court and COMBAR (the Commercial Bar Association) will attend various university law fairs during the Michaelmas Term. If you would like more information about the fairs and other careers events arranged by the Bar Council, please visit their website or contact [email protected].
Are you a Student Society?
The Inn is happy to work with student societies on their barrister related activities throughout the year. If you would like to discuss an event or arrange a visit to the Inn for your society please contact [email protected]. If you would like to kept up to be date about opportunities at the Inn please sign up for our outreach newsletter.
Outreach Opportunites for Practicing Barristers
If you are a practicing Barrister (employed or self-employed) and would be interested in meeting students at university events, visits or Law Fairs, we may have opportunities for you. Quite often we require speakers to discuss their journey to the Bar at events at the Inn, as well as visiting universities around the country. The Inn also works with the Bar Council and other Inns at Law Fairs, and these are fantastic opportunities to share your knowledge with those considering a career at the Bar.
