Applications for the Helen Grindrod Social Mobility Prize 2025 are now open

The Helen Grindrod Social Mobility Prize is aimed at second year undergraduate law students and seeks to improve access to the profession for those from lower socio-economic backgrounds. The prize includes a monetary grant of £250 and mentoring opportunities.

Lincoln’s Inn is seeking to award at least 50% of the places to applicants of Black or mixed Black heritage, whom according to the Bar Council’s Race at the Bar Report 2021 are proportionally less successful in obtaining pupillage than white applicants.

According to the Bar Council’s Race at the Bar Report: Three years on update, the Bar has not made significant advances with respect to the success rates of black applicants in pupillage. We therefore aim to continue supporting prospective barristers of Black or mixed Black heritage through this prize.

In 2024, we held an information webinar on the prize, where questions on the scheme were answered by the Inn’s Outreach Coordinator, Alexis Friday.

Applications for the scheme will close on Monday 12 May 2025 at 17:00.
