Watch: Navigating Parenthood at the Bar
On 8 December 2025, Lincoln’s Inn hosted an online panel discussion on behalf of the Inns of Court Alliance for Women (ICAW) on balancing a legal career with parenting or caring responsibilities.
The panel was chaired by Mrs Justice Lieven, a co-convener of ICAW, and included The Rt Hon Lady Justice Whipple DBE, Sean Jones KC (11KBW), District Judge Fagborun Bennett, Emma Price (5 Essex Chambers) and Emma Louise Fenelon (1 Crown Office Row). They discussed their own personal experiences of having children whilst continuing careers in the legal profession. The discussion included:
- Having children whilst at the junior end of your career
- Maternity and paternity leave challenges in chambers
- How to be present for your children without sacrificing professional opportunities
- How to maintain good relationships with clerks and solicitors whilst on parental leave and on returning to work
