The Library

A library in the Inn was first mentioned as early as 1475. It has moved location over the years, as the collection has grown. For a long time, the library was in a now-demolished building opposite chapel, where the war memorial now stands. When it outgrew this space, it moved to the southern end of Stone Buildings. It has been based in this building since 1845, although its expanding collection necessitated a major extension in the 1870s. Nowadays, the Library also extends downwards into large areas of storage in the basement.
The Library is open to members of the Inns five days a week and during the legal terms, one Saturday in four, in rotation with the other Inn libraries. It combines a major historical collection with a full range of electronic resources for barristers and Bar students.
