South Asian Heritage Month Event: Ground-breaking South Asian Judges
The EDI Committee and Lincoln’s Inn Library are delighted to welcome you to a panel session chaired by Chief Master Shuman celebrating the careers of a number of distinguished judges of South Asian heritage who were members of the Inns of Court.
The event will consist of three short presentations. The Rt Hon. Lord Justice Singh will discuss the role played by South Asian judges in the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council – a topic which has been hitherto neglected. The Hon. Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb will talk about the career of Justice Leila Seth, who achieved many ‘firsts’ during her career, culminating in becoming the first woman Chief Justice of a state High Court in India. The Hon Mr Justice Choudhury will focus on the career of the Honourable Mustafa Kamal, who had a distinguished career as a lawyer and judge, and is known for his promotion of ADR in Bangladesh.
The talks will be followed by a Q&A session and a drinks reception.
