Into the Archives: Henry III 1228 Charter

Originally Lincoln’s Inn did not own the land on which it stood. The main site was rented from the Bishops of Chichester who had been granted the land in 1228 by Henry III. The charter granting that land, dated 16 November 1228, is the oldest document in the Inn’s Archive.

In this video we explore the history of the land ownership and the surrounding area, now known as Chancery Lane.
