‘Access to Justice’ – Read the 2024 Treasurer’s Lecture

The Rt Hon Lord Briggs of Westbourne sits at a table with a blue velvet cloth embroidered with Lincoln's Inn's gold crest. Wearing glasses, a grey suit, and a blue shirt and tie, he is seated beside Faye Appleton, Membership and Education Director, who wears a black blazer and top. Both are addressing a lecture theatre of students during a Q&A session. A jug of water and glasses are visible on the table.
The Rt Hon Lord Briggs of Westbourne and Faye Appleton, Director of Membership and Education, take audience questions following the Treasurer's Lecture.

On 12 December 2024, the Rt Hon Lord Briggs of Westbourne delivered the Inn’s annual Treasurer’s Lecture. The lecture, entitled ‘Access to Justice’, explored key developments in civil justice over the past decade, focusing on the impacts of digitisation, legal reforms, funding challenges, and COVID. It highlighted progress in making tribunals more accessible but also discussed areas where reforms have fallen short, emphasising the ongoing need for better public legal education and pro bono work to ensure access to justice.

The Treasurer’s Lecture is a Qualifying Session offered annually.
