Watch ‘A marquess, a manuscript, and the Wars of the Roses: The Neville Statutes’

Hale Manuscript 194 is one of the Library’s finest manuscripts – a magnificent late C15th volume of statutes, richly decorated and gilded.

In this Black Books Society lecture, Heidi Kinderman, who has made a special study of this and other examples from this golden age of manuscript production, discusses the manuscript, its context and the tumultuous life of its first owner, John Neville, Marquess of Montagu. You can find out more about the Black Books Society here.
