Advocacy & Ethics Day

Students will be sent a Case Analysis exercise and Ethical Scenarios a week in advance to prepare. Students will go through the case in groups led by experience practitioners, identifying the strong and weak points of the case. During the ethics session, students will discuss the scenarios in groups and aim to identify the core duties engaged within each scenario.

Materials and Preparation: Students will be sent an advocacy exercise a week before the event to prepare in advance of the session and will have 10 minutes to perform their exercise on the day. Students who have clearly not prepared will not be awarded a Qualifying Session.  Students will discuss ethical scenarios in groups led by experienced practitioners and will aim to identify the core duties engaged within each scenario. Lunch is included.

Learning Outcomes: At the end of this Qualifying Session students will be able to:

• Understand the significance of ethical decision making in ethical situations and acknowledge mitigating and aggravating factors within cases.
• Students will learn about identifying core duties and relevant sections of the Bar Code of Conduct and how to apply them to specific ethical situations.
• Identify, evaluate and apply the key principles of case analysis methodology.
• Formulate correct courses of action in dealing with ethical situations.
