Advocacy & Ethics Day (Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool Providers only)

Available for students attending providers in Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool only.

Students will perform advocacy exercises in small groups led by experienced practitioners who will give feedback on their performance. Students will discuss ethical scenarios in groups led by experienced practitioners and will aim to identify the core duties engaged within each scenario.

Materials and Preparation:

Students will be sent an advocacy exercise a week before the event to prepare in advance of the session and will have 10 minutes to present their submission on the day. Students also will be sent ethical scenarios and come prepared to discuss the ethical scenarios in groups led by experienced practitioners and will aim to identify the core duties engaged within each scenario. Students who have clearly not prepared will not be awarded a Qualifying Session. Lunch is included

Learning Aims: The aim of the Advocacy & Ethics Day is to provide students with a better knowledge of key strengths and weaknesses as an advocate and to understand the significance of ethical decision making in ethical situations. The day will focus on honing public speaking skills and gaining a better practice of Advocacy. Students will have the opportunity to gain feedback from tutors and peers to enhance their advocacy skills. Students will also learn about identifying core duties and relevant sections of the Bar Code of Conduct and how to apply them to specific ethical situations. The workshop will also help students formulate correct courses of action in dealing with ethical situations.
