We invite you to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the Consecration of Chapel with a special 50-minute Ascension Day Concert on Thursday 18 May at 6 pm. Sung by the Chapel Choir, with William Whitehead (Associate Organist) and Nicholas Shaw directing, the programme will be a celebration of 1623 – both of our Chapel through John Donne and also of other pieces and composers for whom 2023 has a 400 years connection.

  • William Byrd (died 1623) – Laudibus in Sanctis
  • Thomas Weelkes (died 1623) – All people, clap your hands (anthem for Ascension)
  • Extracts from Johann Schein’s Israelis Brünnlein (published in 1623) – sacred madrigals
  • John Donne strand: Kerensa Briggs – O Blessed Trinity (the premiere of this Lincoln’s Inn commission) and Cheryl Frances-Hoad – As sin is nothing, let it nowhere be

You don’t have to be a highbrow choral enthusiast to enjoy this concert! If you are enjoy quality music then come along and be entertained.

A drinks reception will follow the concert. We kindly request that, if you intend to stay for the drinks reception, please email the Chapel Clerk to inform us in advance. Thank you.
