Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Forum: Career Progression within Intersectional Identities

The event has ended.

Time
18:00 - 21:00

Join us for the rescheduled Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Forum.

Intersectionality is a framework for understanding how social identities—such as gender, race, ethnicity, social class, religion, sexual orientation, ability, and gender identity—overlap with one another and with systems of power that can oppress and advantage people in the workplace.

We have invited an expert panel who have all held positions that have required consideration of the formal and informal processes that may impact career progression within the Bar. They will be sharing their experiences around intersectionality in the workplace, how this affects selection processes, as well as career development.

Doors Open: 5:45 pm
Talk: 6:00 pm
Q&A: 6:45 pm
Drinks Reception: 7:15 pm
Finish: 8:30 pm
Location: The Ashworth Centre and Online

The panel will be chaired by HHJ Barbara Mensah and include:

  • Lady Justice Carr DBE – Vice Chair of the Judicial Appointments commission. She has served as a judge of the Court of Appeal since April 2020. She was chair of the Bar Standards Board Conduct Committee between 2008 and 2010 before becoming Complaints Commissioner to the International Criminal Court in the Hague and head of her chambers.
  • Rachel Krys – Bar Council, leads the Bar Council’s Accelerator Programme, focussed on the retention and progression of women and other under-represented groups at the Bar.
