George Payne becomes Chair of the Bar Representation Committee
I am looking forward to working hard to represent the interests of all of the Inn’s members, and in particular to bring friendly engagement and enthusiasm to our work.
George Payne, BRC Committee Chair 2024-2026
George Payne has been elected as the new Chair of the Lincoln’s Inn Bar Representation Committee (BRC). His term as Chair will last two years, and began on 1 August 2024.
The Bar Representation Committee (BRC) plays an active role in the governance of the Inn. The Committee provides representation on behalf of those who have been Called by the Inn who have not been elected Benchers, also known as members of Hall. The Committee currently (as of July 2024) has 31 members, reflective of the Inn’s diverse membership.
The BRC’s membership includes the self-employed and employed bar and judiciary and is intended to be as representative of members of Hall as possible. It also supports the many activities arranged by the Inn throughout the year and organises its own events.
George is a self-employed criminal barrister practising in London and the South East from Furnival Chambers. He has been a committed and active member of the BRC since 2017 (last elected 2022-2025). As Chair, George will represent Hall on the Finance and General Purposes Committee and the Planning and Development Group (PADG).
We spoke to George about his reaction to the news:

“It is a huge privilege to have been elected chair of the Bar Representation Committee. Looking back on my 7 years on the Committee, I have enjoyed working closely with the members of the Inn’s team and have seen almost every facet of what the Inn does, as a Committee member, advocacy tutor, debating mentor, and active member of the Inn.
I am looking forward to working hard to represent the interests of all of the Inn’s members, and in particular to bring friendly engagement and enthusiasm to our work.”
