European and International Group
The European and International Group oversee the Inn’s International, European and Human Rights Law Programme. The programme offers members and non-members at all levels the opportunity to learn more about the practice of International, European and Human Rights Law.
The Programme consists of various lectures and the annual Sir Thomas More Lecture and Dinner. It also includes visits to European and International courts in Strasbourg, The Hague and Luxembourg for current student and pupil members. The Inn also offers scholarships to undertake placements at European and international institutions.

Sir Thomas More Lecture and Dinner
Senior members of the European and UK judiciary offer their thoughts on contemporary topics. Recent speakers and topics include:
- 2025 – Judge Kathy-Ann Brown – “Consent and the Rule of International Law: the evolving role of international tribunals in an unstable world”
- 2024 – The Right Honourable Dame Siobhan Keegan – “Human rights protections: A view from Northern Ireland”
- 2023 – Judge Angelika Nußberger – “Human Rights – Universalism in Retreat?”
- 2022 – The Rt Hon The Lord Mance – “The Protection of Rights – this way, that way, forwards, backwards…”
European Lectures
Lincoln’s Inn also holds some standalone lectures each year which covers current issues. Previous topics include tax, competition law, and Brexit. See our Events page for upcoming events.
Scholarships
Lincoln’s Inn offers a range of scholarships, awards to courts in The Hague, Strasbourg and Luxembourg, and a contribution to applicants who arrange their own placements abroad, as well as contributing towards the Pegasus Scholarship Trust which is administered by Inner Temple.

European Visits
Each year, the Inn offers three highly subsidised study visits to some of Europe’s most important legal institutions. Students and pupils, accompanied by senior members of the Inn, have the chance to explore the European Court of Human Rights and the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, the international courts in The Hague, and the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg. These immersive trips provide a rare, behind-the-scenes experience of international law in action. Learn more on our European Visits page.
Publications
Lincoln’s Inn’s European and International Group periodically publishes the Sir Thomas More and other International and European Law lectures given at the Inn.
