Circuit News and Upcoming Events – April 2026

Recent months have seen Lincoln’s Inn well represented across the circuits, with members coming together to celebrate achievements, share expertise, and support the next generation of the Bar.

Recent circuit events

Northern Circuit: Grand Dinner and Student Training Day

Lincoln’s Inn’s Northern Circuit Representatives, Lisa Roberts KC and Isabelle Haddad, recently attended the Northern Circuit’s Grand Dinner at St George’s Hall, Liverpool, on 14 March. The evening honoured five members on their appointments to the Court of Appeal and High Court, including Mr Justice Mark Cawson, Bencher of Lincoln’s Inn, on his appointment to the High Court. Circuit’s Presiding Judge and Lincoln’s Inn Bencher, Mr Justice Julian Goose, was also in attendance.

In other Northern Circuit news, Bar students recently took part in an in-person advocacy and ethics training day in Manchester, with Inn members on circuit helping to deliver a well-received session focused on courtroom skills and confidence.

Western Circuit: Christmas social

On 17 December, Western Circuit Representatives Susan Brown and Sophie Howard hosted a Winter Social at Riverstation in Bristol. The evening was a fantastic opportunity for members to reflect on the year, with Bar Course students also in attendance to hear from practitioners about life on circuit.

Treasurer’s Circuit Dinner: Cardiff – Thursday 21 May 2026

The Treasurer of Lincoln’s Inn, Mrs Elspeth Talbot Rice KC, is delighted to host a dinner for Called members of the Inn based on the Wales & Chester Circuit. The evening begins with a drinks reception at 19:00, followed by dinner at 19:30, with a three-course meal and wine selected by the Inn’s Wine Committee (soft drink alternatives included). Treasurer’s Circuit Dinner – Leeds – Thursday 11 June 2026

The Treasurer will also be hosting a dinner for Called members based on the North Eastern Circuit. As with the Cardiff dinner, the evening features a drinks reception at 19:00, dinner at 19:30, and a three-course meal with wine from the Inn’s Wine Committee. Book here.

ONLINE – Stephen Lawrence Day: Reflections on the Justice System and Racial Bias in 2026 – Wednesday 22 April 2026 (at Lincoln’s Inn and online)

Stephen Lawrence Day falls each year on 22 April, the anniversary of Stephen’s death. Established by the Stephen Lawrence Foundation to encourage national reflection, this year’s event — 33 years on from his murder — will examine how the justice system must address racial bias, with particular focus on those working within it, victims of miscarriages of justice, and those seeking to reform it.

Speakers include Allison Munroe KC (Garden Court Chambers), whose practice spans large-scale inquests, public inquiries, and family public law, and Keir Monteith KC (Garden Court Chambers), lead counsel in the Manchester 10 appeal and co-author of the report Racial Bias and the Bench. Registration opens at 17:45; the talk runs from 18:00–19:15, followed by a drinks reception until 20:30. Open to members of all four Inns, legal professionals, and law students. Re-imagining Advocacy Day – Thursday 14 May 2026, University of Birmingham Law School

The Centre for Professional Legal Education and Research (CEPLER) at the University of Birmingham Law School is hosting a one-day in-person workshop exploring the evolving landscape of advocacy. Bringing together legal academics and practitioners, the event will discuss innovative approaches to advocacy teaching across undergraduate, postgraduate, curricular, and co-curricular settings.
